Oh great, another thing to do at the end of the school year, believe me I know. But it’s so important to take care of the people that take care of our kids.
Childcare in any form is such a hard job, and we were so blessed with great teachers this year. We also have an excellent bus driver that really looks out for the kids in our rural area. (If you live out in the country, you know what I’m talking about)
I wanted to do something different for end-of-the-year gifts, something useful, so I thought outside the box a little bit.
I remember picking up my son on the last day of school last year, and as all of the teachers stood out by the sidewalk and waved goodbye to the kids, I laughed and thought to myself they must be so worn out by this time of year.
Since teachers sometimes “run out of gas” by the end of the year, I thought of giving gas station and coffee shop gift cards (and chocolate!) to help them “refuel.”
I had my son write personal notes to his teacher and bus driver. We included fun-sized chocolate bars. I found round storage containers to use as “tanks” for refueling.
I made simple notes out of yellow construction paper and used ribbons from our art box at home. The note on the left is the top of the fold-up card that I taped down.
I really want the people that care for my little ones to feel appreciated and happy about doing so.
I went with a $25 fuel card, and $5 Starbucks card for each container. All items and amounts can be easily adjusted to suit your budget.
I did gas cards at my son’s daycare several years ago, and they really appreciated it. Several of them commuted to the center and gas prices were higher then.
It won’t be the prettiest thing you’ll see on Pinterest, but it’s practical and sure to bring a smile. And the container can be repurposed afterwards.
This is something that worked for our family this time around. They have my babies when I’m not there, and I want to make it count.
Please share any outside-of-the-box gift ideas you have given, or if you are a teacher or bus driver, share anything cool you have received!
