I could sit here all day and come up with homemade Halloween costume ideas. I absolutely love it! I love to reinvent stuff from home and get creative in making cool costumes. Here is a pic of my husband and I when our son was about a year old. We went with a Mario theme, Danny was Mario, I was the princess and our little guy was a Power Up Mushroom.
It was very inexpensive. I think the only money I spent on this was on my son’s red t-shirt, white felt sticky paper to cut the white circles out of, a foam crown and wig in the craft section of a discount store, a small pack of iron on lettering to spell out “Power up” on his t-shirt, and a few more bucks on a pink dress and necklace from Goodwill. The baby’s hat was a Superman winter hat that I turned inside out to show the red. And everything you see here could be used again afterwards (though I don’t believe I ever wore the dress or necklace again!)
It was a lot of fun and we got a lot of compliments on our family costume idea. I like to come up with things that are safe, practical and not a hassle to trick-or-treat in (I wore jeans and tennis shoes under the dress, and we dressed with cold weather in mind).
I love to look online for neat ideas and I found pictures of several other do-able costumes that you don’t need to be a professional seamstress for, or need to spend a great deal of money on.
Here are pictures of some of the coolest homemade Halloween costumes that I found:
