Super Mario is something that never goes out of style. My son is a long time fan, so I needed to get creative to switch up his birthday party cupcakes.
I love doing DIY birthday parties, but I am also a fan of the simple. I went with a similar concept as the Mushroom Cupcakes I did for a previous party.
For the Bowser Shell cupcakes, I made a regular box cake mix as directed for cupcakes with a simple Baker’s frosting with green food coloring.
I went with silver cupcake liners as a nice contrast to the green and a little extra bling factor.
I used white chocolate chips for the spikes on the shell. If I had more time, I would have piped white frosting around the edges hear the cupcake liner, but I was challenged for time, and I thought these were really cute as they were.
You could also use butterscotch or orange flavored chips, as Bowser’s shell has orange spikes, but these worked great too.
I printed a picture of Bowser off of the internet, cut it out and stuck it on the big cupcake just before we lit the candle and sang Happy Birthday.
He loved them. They were a big hit!
